The Laurel Ridge Trail follows an old railroad bed and is one of the more popular hiking trails in the area. The Laurel Ridge Trail begins on a gravel road through private property. Please stay on the trail in this area to respect the privacy of the landowners along the route. DIRECTIONS: US 25/70 and State Road 208 at Big Laurel Creek. The parking lot is approximately 100 yards before the Steady Eddy Coffee Shop. The trail begins past the gate at the end of the parking area.
The Lover's Leap Loop accesses the Appalachian Trail via the Lover's Leap Trail to make a short hike along the French Broad River and a steep rocky ridge. The Lover's Leap Loop trail head starts at the Silvermine Campground parking area. Walk down the access road leading to the parking area at the Nantahala Outdoor Center, cross Silvermine Creek at the bridge and follow the Appalachian Trail (watch for white blazes) along the French Broad River. After a half mile, the trail climbs steeply to Lover's Leap Ridge - a rocky outcrop with multiple overlooks. The Appalachian Trail continues north to Mill Ridge. To complete Lover's Leap Loop, take the Lover's Leap Trail to the left (orange blazes) back to Silvermine trailhead parking area. DIRECTIONS: From Hot Springs, go east on U.S. 25/70 across the French Broad River Bridge. Turn left at the first intersection past bridge on River Road and follow the signs to the Silvermine Trailhead.
